When is National Take The Stairs Day?
While National Take The Stairs Day is being celebrated on the 9th of January in 2019, it is celebrated on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Meaning that the day can change from year to year. Also, while this is called a “national” day, it is not actually recognized by Congress.
There is also very little evidence surrounding its origins, although it seems to have begun recently, in January of 2016. We, to this date, do not know exactly who started it.
How is National Take The Stairs Day celebrated?
There are not many ways in which you can celebrate this day. Simply do what the title says, walk up a flight of stairs instead of using an escalator or elevator. This holiday can be a good way of getting people into the habit of taking more healthy options in their passive lives. Especially because it is so close to New Years Day, in which many people have started their resolutions.
Since walking, or even running, upstairs is a good way to get your blood pumping with little effort, it is a great way to start a healthy lifestyle. They are fairly high intensity and can make your legs look great. So I say try it every chance you get, not just on this special occasion.
So long as you do not fall down them, climbing stairs can actually cut your risk of mortality by 33%. This including reducing your risk for death via common diseases, like heart disease, and diabetes.
